Dr. Sonja Kurz is part of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), for twenty years now. She has been contributing and supporting the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives, by providing viable, forward-looking solutions for political, economic, ecological, and social development in a globalized world.

Since 2020 Dr. Kurz has been appointed as the Country Director for GIZ Albania supporting Albanian Country to undertake reforms that address challenges in the economic, as well as in the governmental sector.

From 2013 – 2019 she was Head of the Department for Economic Policy, Private Sector Development and Employment at GIZ Head Quarter, in Eschborn, Germany.

 

Prior to 2013, Dr. Kurz held the position of program director with the GIZ on regional economic integration based at the SADC Secretariat in Botswana. The program focuses on finance and investment, private sector promotion as well as trade of services. Before joining SADC in 2006, for four years she was a technical advisor to various GIZ programs on private sector development and economic policy.

 

Before joining GIZ in 2002, Dr. Kurz was responsible manager for the Department for Knowledge Transfer and Lifelong Education at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, Germany for 5 years. Before she worked in the marketing department for FESTO AG.

 

Dr. Kurz holds a PhD in economics and gained extensive experience as a lecturer at the Berufsakademie Mannheim.
